Day 5 Monday 4.June.2018

what's wrong with Belle's 13 year fail argument? no forgiveness. too absolutist. OK, so I've made a mistake, committed a sin, fessed up, said I'm sorry. Now dust myself off and start all over. It's not really a numbers game. In 8 months I've had 4 fails - the sherry, the 2/3 day 'binge' before Naxos, the fetes des voisins, the pollo sarsa (I'm not counting the slurp of whisky at Flost's or the shandy at Alyko or the taste of white port. It is a bit worrying that the binge/fete/pollo all happened in a fairly short time frame - I need to learn what that's about, and how to stop it. So try emailing her 4 times a day until Day 7, 3 times to Day 30, 2 times (strict!) to Day 60 - get to my birthday (and through Vietnam) 100% sober.

Nick Hubble on the Eurozone target2 problem / Italian default. Isn't the answer a proper Credit Union, where surplus countries pay a penalty on their surpluses over a certain %, incentivising them to reduce their surpluses, and deficit countries get some sort of benefit if they reduce their deficits (by importing less and producing more) - Germany needs to consume much more to reduce its surplus, and Italy etc need to produce much more to reduce their deficits. The current system just provides perverse incentives to both sides.

sorted the tyres. fixed the lock and the electrics. collected anna do Brasil from the airport. didn't do Stuart's book, or the accounts. didn't drink. there was no giant storm. nick and tina and john and cathy and Katherine and Anna and me for roast chicken and cous cous and scofa. Tina and Cathy and Anna are all involved in meditating with children and had a long discuss about their experiences over supper. Was it by arrangement that they are all here, mostly for on eor two nights, at the same time?

i need flypaper. There are no mossies but the flies are really irritating. Or I need a fly scaring / killing pet. I don't suppose a frog would join me, they're having far too much fun roaring their heads off in the woods all night.

Feeling a bit strung out. Too hyper, over excited by all these new faces that keep coming and going. I want there to be a rule, you can't just pop by for a night or two and then flit off. It's like a permanent cocktail party. Everyone's very nice, and it's lovely that they can see Bonnevaux and go home and tell everyone else how wonderful it is and get them to donate squids to finish it all. The bell's rung (it's Tuesday, 6am) - time to go.
