Day 24 Monday 29.i.2018

What are muskrats? There are a lot of them about apparently. I think I heard one splashing in the river outside my bedroom in the night. Or a very quiet sanglier. The muskrats are alien, and undermine the banks.

Very tired at supper. Went off and did ranty washing up and came up to bed at 9pm. Varoufakis talking about the fakery of the EU and the nonsense of Brexit. EU invented by the US to provide a cartel of heavy industry and a bulwark against the Russians. UK now so financialised and dependent on services it cannot really function outside the EU (which he admits is broken but not nearly as much as some of its members, including us). Some Greek being very rude about him in the comments section - he sold Greece down the river and is in the pay of Soros. What is it with Soros? Why does everyone hate him, or think he's behind everything from the Ukraine to the GFC? Not behind Trump, apparently (which really does seem to be my favourite word). Everything hurts and I'm very tired. Hope I can survive and finish the Edspace OK. Don't get overwhelmed, I'll just end up drinking all the way home. Take more time out in the day. I am 65.

Stuart liked my poem, which is nice.

Practice silence (or, at least, mindful speech) for a day

I am unhappy
    tired, sore, burns, aches
irritated with everyone - they're all fools
afraid I've taken on too much, that I'll cock it up, not finish it, let people down
lonely, fed up with being with strangers and people who only speak French
loss of autonomy, independence, subject to other people's expectations / demands
trying to do too much, thinking it's all down to me
not having a good book to hide in
the bad dream about Pol - not really about her (and me)? More a warning - stinking thinking on the rise

Conversation with Soren about marriages, growing apart, in laws not getting over it.

Andrew & Delyth - met when he was 20 and she 38. what a story!

They / we are all lovely people. This is a lovely place.

Frustrating day. Everything seems to take forever. Andrew and Delyth spent all day shopping. Rigged up electricity to Edspace and installed a floodlight. First attempt to drill through a wall panel I hit a screw. Lost Andrew's spanner on a piece of strong over a beam in the stable archway, trying to string up the electric cable. Gravel arrived at 4pm - spread it tomorrow first thing. Ready to start the real work tomorrow, I hope.

It doesn't take 3 people to do the washing up. It shouldn't take all afternoon to put the shopping away. I think Delyth's pissed off with me because I keep letting the cats out. The owls are going mad (and so are the cats now, howling away at each other).

Soren has fixed the water heater for the kitchen, so Delyth and Andrew are delighted. We had a small dish of roasted vegetables for supper, with a bit of bread and cheese. Aren't we supposed to have lentil bakes and stuff? Just as well I have a pound of porridge for breakfast. Could use a nice chop.
