Treats and passions

********* think of a special treat for a triumph or disaster *********
Homework 1:
· give me a short list of treats could buy for yourself, every two days, $5 or less … what will your treats for the next couple of weeks be?

  • mini magnums
  • local country pate
  • local salami, chorizo, smoked bacon
  • take someone out on a date - cinema or concert or something (bit more than $5)
  • tell myself how brilliant and amazing I am (with your and others' support) without being ashamed - why shouldn't I be proud of what I'm doing? At regular intervals. This is not something I have ever really done in my life.
  • Reiki or head massage
  • a game of Go
  • writing real letters (nice paper, envelope, fountain pen)
  • making a model
  • having my teeth cleaned
  • going on a retreat
  • doing a woodland management or green woodwork course
  • making a table for my room / for my caravan
  • a badedas bath
  • dye my hair and beard
  • nice fizzy water
  • make a waistcoat out of a lovely old curtain i've been planning to do something with for 3 years
  • t.b.contd

(some of these cost a lot more than $5, but as I was spending at least £7 a day on alcohol, a reiki massage for example costs the same as 4 or 5 days drinking - deferred gratification)

Homework 2:
· what passion/interest/hobby do you have in your life already that you could do MORE of if you were sober for at least the next 16 days :)

  1. finish my novel (last chapter)
  2. paint a picture
  3. write a poem
  4. start work on making my caravan sustainable (wood burner, solar panels, remove crap)
  5. join a local choir
  6. go back to Naxos for a sober fortnight
  7. round the world via Hanoi, Auckland, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Colorado
  8. a week's silent retreat (or go to Bonnevaux)

I want a treat for Day 42 - November 17th. (Never managed this - in the end I just slobbed around, didn't even meditate). Didn't do any better on Day 50. Doesn't seem to matter much, at the moment.
